Skilled Nursing Facility Outbreaks

The dashboard includes a banner which represents new outbreaks, and new resident positives that have occurred within those outbreaks. The banner is followed by graphs representing skilled nursing facilities with ongoing outbreaks. As of September 11, 2023, we will use data collected from the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN). The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) continues to require weekly submission of COVID-19 data into NHSN for all skilled nursing facilities. Note: NHSN data has a one-week delay.

Data Notes:

The ‘Facilities with Active Cases’ data in the chart above represent the average of all active cases within the previous week.
Investigations: Any licensed skilled nursing facility that the Utah Department of Health and Human Services has worked with in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Facilities with exposures that did not result in an identified case of COVID-19 are included.
Outbreak: At least 1 case of COVID-19 in a resident or health care worker, in licensed skilled nursing facilities.
Outbreaks Resolved: When a facility has had no new cases in a resident or health care worker for 14 days, then the outbreak is considered resolved, and the facility is removed from the active outbreak list.
Positive Residents: All resident cases are attributed to the facility where the case originated, even if the resident transfers to another location.
Case numbers are provisional and may change as updates are received.
